MAINTENANCE OF MARINE STEEL DOORS<\/h1>\n
Areas to be inspected
\n<\/b>Having the right inspection procedures is important not only for the doors to meet the high safety requirements placed on them, but also so that they have as long a life as possible. The points below should be checked regularly. How often and to what extent the checks are carried out is determined based on the door\u2019s function and location. However, the frequency should be at least 2 times a year. Remember to clearly communicate who is responsible for the checks being carried out and how such checks are documented. The maintenance of marine and offshore doors must comply with standard NORSOK Z-008 7.1. <\/span><\/p>\n1. Surface treatment of door and frame
\n<\/b>A general visual inspection of the door and frame surface finish should be carried out. Check especially that the attachment of the frame to the bulkhead is secured. Also check the distance between the frame and door leaf. Tighten the fixing screws if necessary. Any surface defects must be repaired and repainted. Adequate protection is needed to prevent the product from rusting prematurely and thus shortening its life. The doors should be washed with a mild detergent to prevent the product from rusting.<\/p>\n
2. Hinges
\n<\/b>Check that the hinges do not have loose fastening screws, tighten if necessary. Lubrication of hinges with high quality grease is important. Service the hinges by checking for defective parts that need to be replaced. The door must always swing freely and smoothly without obstruction, from open to locked position.<\/p>\n
3. Lock and panic switch
\n<\/b>Check all locks for loose fastening screws, wear of the lock, or other visible defects. Tighten the fixing screws if necessary. Clean and lubricate the lock and all moving parts, remove defective parts and replace them according to the manufacturer\u2019s recommendations. The door must always be able to be locked freely and smoothly without any impediments. Self-locking devices must operate freely and smoothly when the door swings into the closed position.<\/p>\n
4. Strike plate
\n<\/b>The strike plate must be firmly mounted in the frame or in the inactive door leaf of a pair of doors. Check for loose screws and\/or other visible defects. Tighten screws as necessary and remove and replace damaged parts according to manufacturer\u2019s instructions.<\/p>\n
5. Closing devices
\n<\/b>Check all closing devices for loose fastening screws and their smooth operation. Tighten screws as necessary and remove defective parts and replace them according to the manufacturer\u2019s recommendations. The device shall allow the door to operate freely and smoothly throughout its swing range and positively lock or remain in the closed position.<\/p>\n
6. Flush bolts
\n<\/b>Check for loose fastening screws in all locking bolts, the rod bolts should be able to be retracted, extended, and engage with the strike plate, or lockhole freely and smoothly. Remove defective parts and replace them according to the manufacturer\u2019s recommendations. <\/span><\/p>\n7. Glass surfaces
\n<\/b>Glass material must be checked for cracks and\/or missing pieces of glass. The glass mounting frame should be checked to ensure that all fixing screws (if used) are tight and that the unit is securely attached to the door. <\/span><\/p>\n8. Seals
\n<\/b>A visual and functional inspection is regularly necessary for seals. Inspect for signs of deterioration, e.g. cracks or deformation of flexible components. Install replacement components as needed.<\/p>\n
